"Music expresses that which cannot be said and on which it is impossible to be silent"

                                             Victor Hugo

EMMA H -2

Born and raised in Gloucestershire,  Emma demonstrated a love for music and performing from an young age. Coming from a family of musicians and music lovers, she was exposed to a wide variety of different musical styles and this is reflected in her versatility both as a writer and a performer. Piano lessons soon demonstrated that Emma was more of a 'playing by ear' musician and this naturally steered her towards writing her own material.

Fortunate enough to have been taught by some particularly inspiring music teachers at school, who both encouraged and nurtured her passion, Emma discovered she had, not only a love for singing, but potentially, a real talent. Comparisons were

exciting combination of a big soulful voice belying such a petite frame. At 18, Emma began to play the pubs and clubs in Gloucestershire, which allowed her to develop her confidence and her talent.

Emma's other passion was athletics and her success in this placed her music and peforming firmly into the 'hobbies' category for a while. A degree in English and Sport Science at Loughborough University followed with a heavy focus on her career as an athlete.  Emma continued to write, and perform as regularly as possible and she joined a local jazz band 'Ain't Misbehavin'  as a lead vocalist. This prompted an even deeper affection for the jazz and blues genres and Emma began to immerse herself in the music of artists such as Sarah Vaughan, Billie Holliday and Etta James.

Not content with only performing once a week, Emma trained at the London School of Musical Theatre (LSMT)  She was offered a role  in a professional production of her graduate showcase, 'When Midnight Strikes' at the Finborough Theatre and she can be heard on the cast album. Following this, she performed in pantomimes and various corporate roles as a lead vocalist. After an open audition in 2008, she was offered one of the prinicipal roles, Donna, in the new Bill Kenwright musical, 'Dreamboats and Petticoats', touring the UK, She then made her West End debut in this role at the Savoy Theatre and recorded an original cast album. She went on to cover and play both female lead roles, Scaramouche and Meatloaf in 'We Will Rock You' at the Dominion Theatre. Following this, Emma became the Standby for Elphaba in 'Wicked' in the West End and from 2nd February, 2015 will play the role of Elphaba permanently. Alongside this, Emma became a regular solo vocalist at Ronnies Bar within Ronnie Scotts Jazz Club, a solo jazz artist at The Savoy Hotel and on board Bateaux Riverboat Cruises and sings with a blues band called 'Kiss the Blue Sky'
